“Hey…Remember that Guy who quit?

Yeah…me neither”

I saw this on an Instagram post recently and it really resonated with me.

One of the phases I find myself saying more and more to clients is ‘Consistency is KEY’…and never was this more important than with your Social Media strategies.

Whatever your Social Media preferences, most Social platforms work on the same basic principle of rewarding engaging content and if you are producing this engaging content on a consistent basis, it will reward you all the more by rolling out your content to more and more people-which I’m sure is ultimate why you started using Social Media in the first place

What does ‘consistent’ even mean when it comes to Social Media?

When we look at people who seem to be ‘nailing’ their Social Media presence, we may well look towards the Influencers and BIG brands and try and replicate their behaviour of posting several times a day every day of the week.

However, for most small to medium sized businesses who embark on this aggressive tactic of ‘constant’ posting, one of two things happen…they run out of steam…or they run out of patience!

Either way you find yourself in a Tortoise and a Hare type of situation, you were hot out of the gates, full of enthusiasm and drive for your new plans, got yourself ahead and then ran out of ideas, maybe took your foot of the pedal, your engagement reduced and your viewing figures became woeful, so you ‘gave up’…irrespective of whether you were starting to gain traction or not, generally speaking, working at the level of a huge brand or a full time influencer is just not sustainable for most small and medium sized businesses where Social Media is generally a part of your marketing strategy and not your entire business Plan.

It’s an easy mistake to make is to confuse consistency with volume.

So…Just what does consistency look like in your business?

If your business (and lets face it life in general) just doesn’t allow for you posting on every single Social platform 3 times a day, then don’t commit to that.

Whenever you are thinking about planning content for your Social Media outlets, you ALWAYS need to consider quality over quantity, so if that means you know you can commit to one awesome piece of content a week to share across all your platforms, then that is where you start.

If you feel like you can post twice a day everyday, brilliant!  Go for it.

But whatever you decide, stick to it…and then grow into a more frequent schedule as and when you are ready…but don’t, go backwards, pick a minimum effort and stick with it!

Why is creating consistent content so important?

There are two big answers to this question, and we will be looking at both in more detail in the future, but the first is Trust.

If you are consistently providing your followers with valuable content, you are raising your brand and your reputation in your customers eyes.  They know they can rely on you as a business or a service provider and that if nothing else, that you are still actually trading!

How often have you looked at a local traders Instagram account, seen that they haven’t posted in a year and assumed they are no longer an active business, and written them off??  I do this all the time!

If your customers can see that you still have a consistent presence on Social Media, they will assume you are still a thriving business and worth contacting.

The other side of this is more of a self-fulfilling prophecy,  the harder you work, the harder your Social Media will work for you and their algorithms  (which are pretty similar across the board) will work in your favour and essentially show your content to more people more often.

Over my next few blogs, we are going to be looking at ‘Consistency’ in more detail, as it is such a HUGE topic and so important!

So between now and then, I encourage you to review your current Social Media posting strategy.

Is it a cut and run approach? Could you benefit from a more strategic approach to your content production? If you absolutely had to, how much time could you commit to posting on your Social Media platforms a day/a week/a month?

Start by asking yourself these questions and check back in with us for a more in depth look at why consistency is key and how you can implement steps in your own business to keep consistent with your approach to Social Media, and if you want some more personalised advice, just drop us a line and we will be happy to help get you started with an effective Social Media plan especially for your business.

But from this short introduction into such a key topic, take this little nugget of wise words…

“If you are persistent you will get it…if you are consistent you will keep it”
